So begins the adventures of Sato the Rabbit, as he interacts with a continually surprising and fully imaginative world where everything contains the potential for imagination, exploration, and new experiences. Reviewers praised the series for its “plunge into gorgeous colors and shapes” (Youth Services Book Review) and praised the “natural-sounding translation” ( Publishers Weekly) for the way it “captures the wonder with which children see and experience the world, their senses on overdrive.” (Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast )

We translated two stories in this collection, Sumo and Scapegoat, from six works during Osamu Dazai’s teenage years. A joy and an honor, this project was challenging in the best way possible.
